Rio de Janeiro

What a city… mindblowing. We spent 10 amazing days in the Leblon neighborhood. We visited the most iconic places. Leblon, Ipanema and Copacabana beaches; the Chist in the Corcovado, Maracaná football stadium, the Sugar Loaf. The Selarón stairs. The Museo da Amanha (build by Calatrava, the same architect that build the Reina Sofia museum in Valencia) and more places. We also traveled to Angra dos Reis and spend the day in a boat, visiting Ilha Grande and a couple of its remote beaches.

We rented electric scooters to move around, this was one of the best activities we did, kids loved it! BTW, traveling with kids is special (at least with ours): you have to adapt the pace and choose wisely what you want to do, we can’t plan 10 activities per day because they get tired, and  start complaining. They really enjoy just hanging in the apartment, sleeping, going to the beach… and this is also good, because it allows us to stop and rest too (otherwise we don’t stop).

There’s something special about Rio, a unique “vibe”, not sure if its the beach life which is incredible, never seen anything like that: Cariocas spend a lot of time at the beach, training, drinking, enjoying. A lot of people exercising, playing football-voley or “Altinha” (A group of 4 trying to keep a ball in the air).

And if you like design and urbanism in general, the city colors, the trees, the architecture, and the overall design of everything is splendid, but also crazy and chaotic and full of contrasts and I think that makes it very unique, Rio is shocking: you see luxury, history and iconic places, favelas and poverty, smells, exuberant nature with huge trees and green in the streets, monkeys, morros (mountains) in the city, crossed with tunneled highways… we will return for sure.
